Closing the doors on an historic local church in Providence, Rhode Island,  the 141-year-old “”Episcopal Church of the Epiphany”" held its final service this morning. Eyewitness news in Providence, at the church on Potters Avenue.   The church began as a mission parish in 1868… and once claimed 700- parishioners.  Today — it only has about seventy.

The vicar says they’ve tried everything to keep Epiphany going… parishioners say they will continue the church’s traditions elsewhere.   Linda Guest, Epiphany parishioner said,  “”today is a mixed blessing. There’s a lot of joy here but there is some sorrow at the closing of the church.”"

The Rev. Karen Fraioli, Epiphany’s  Vicar said,  “”it’s a group that’s very diverse…. …it’s emotional to bring things to a close.”"

The Episcopal diocese of Rhode Island will decide what’s next for the church building… which may include putting it on the market.
